Monolithic Refractories

Here, we introduce classification of refractories and specific features of monolithic refractories.

What are Refractories?

Refractory mean "nonmetallic mineral matter which bears elevated temperature, and there is little volume change by heat, with sufficient mechanical strength under the ambient to elevated temperatures, and resistance to sudden change of temperature."
The purpose of use are

  1. To protect furnace shell from elevated temperature,
  2. To insulate heat inside equipment and to lessen heat loss,
  3. To secure safety,

and so on.

Refractories can be classified into shaped refractories molded and fired beforehand and monolithic refractories cast into required shapes and fired after installation at job site.

About Monolithic Refractories

What are Monolithic Refractories?

Monolithic refractories are superior to firebricks particularly in the following features:

  1. Monolithic refractories can be chosen according to the required physical properties or suitable installation technique.
  2. A thin, strong and economical furnace lining with execellent heat insulation can be constructed by using the appropriate supporting elements.
  3. Monolithic Refractories make this possible through the use of supporting fixtures and different methods of installation.

characteristics

  • free-shaped furnace wall can be built.
  • A gas leak is not carried out by construction of a solid wall without a masonry joint.
  • It is supported by furnace shell of an anchor and there is no swelling of a wall.
  • It can construct, even if there is no advanced expert.
  • Mechanization is easy and time-necessary-for-completion shortening is possible.
  • Product time for delivery is short compared with brick.
  • Partial repair is easy.
